We recently spent a week in Tahoe with my family to celebrate my parents' 30th anniversary. The trip was so much fun and so beautiful. It was a perfect trip to combine my love of beaches and Adam's love of mountains.
The trip will be forever tied in my mind with the very sad passing of a friend and fellow MPAer, Alisa Hardy Orton. Just the day before she passed away, she was giving me advice about where to visit on our trip and forgiving me for cancelling dinner plans. I was hoping to meet up with her in Reno for dinner on our way to Tahoe, but I didn't plan well enough to account for all the logistics of driving 8 hours through the desert. She was so kind and forgiving of my disorganization. I will always remember her for her willingness to serve in any way possible and her love for motherhood.
Some of my fellow MPA graduates hosted a memorial for her last weekend. Alisa Hardy Orton really embodied the goals of the MPA program. Her life was dedicated to giving and improving the lives of others. I think one of the greatest blessings from attending the MPA program was meeting so many amazing and inspiring women like Alisa.
I think this quote by Alisa sums up her life:
"It is better to serve than to criticize, help than accuse, smile than cry."
Learned by Sister Alisa Hardy in Concepcion, Chile earthquake February 2010
